Elementary Students to Move From Hybrid to In-Person Full-time

I am happy to announce that the Pendleton School District will be moving K-5 students from Hybrid to in-person learning full-time beginning Monday, April 12. The elementary school day will be from 8 AM to 2:30 PM.

Our rationale for this decision is due to a combination of the factors below:

  • The latest revisions to the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance pertaining to physical distancing
  • Students have been out of school for much too long
  • The vast majority of students learn best when they are physically present with their teachers in school buildings
  • A growing number of students are safer when they are in school under our supervision all day
  • The Pendleton School District has demonstrated the ability to prevent the spread of COVID-19 when students and staff are present in schools
  • The vast majority of the district’s workforce has been vaccinated
  • Although the Hybrid Learning Model has been a good transition, it does not eliminate the additional demands placed on families
  • MidCo can better accommodate the transportation needs of K-12 students
  • By returning elementary students on April 12, students will have eight full weeks of comprehensive academic and social/emotional support prior to summer break

Families will be receiving specifics in the coming days from their child’s school.  There will be slight adjustments for elementary transportation pick-up and drop-off times.  Those will be released by Friday, April 9th.

I want to thank our families and community as we have navigated the complexities the pandemic has thrust upon all of us.  I am excited and truly believe it is in the best interest of our students and families that our students spend as much of the remainder of the 20-21 school year with their teachers in our school buildings.

Respectfully,
Chris Fritsch

Respetuosamente,
Chris Fritsch
